While You Were Napping

lets be honest, i wish they were napping

a few of my favorite things

so we  are in El Paso…cricket cricket..yes its not that exciting to me either.

I am enjoying this time with my two big kids before the little one comes..we are 6 days out from Due Day..however I was told not to plan on her coming on time. Good old encouraging doctor. We have some days we would like to suggest as a birthday: 7/4..fireworks automatically every birthday, amazing! 7/6 I would love to share my birthday, 7/7 would be cool cause 7/7/14 (7+7=14..my son is 4+7=11), 7/8…her actual due date which would make her my favorite. 🙂 If they have to induce they said as a hospital they don’t until 41 weeks and 3 days…Tyler’s birthday is 4 days after that so he said well just keep her in until the 22…as one of my sweet friends said earlier..”oh so he wants you to birth a toddler” I laughed so hard.

Funny story..So I’ve never had my water break on its own but since we are staying with family I have had this fear its going to break in a bed or on a rug that doesn’t belong to me. How embarrassing would that be…mortifying. Well the other night I was really hot when I went to sleep, I woke up and my pants were soaked..I kept thinking man I would think if my water broke I would feel it,There would have to be some type of significant movement to break it right? Did I just wet the bed..oh my goodness. Thankfully I felt this little movement on my back..apparently Hanna came in our bed in the middle of the night. Well I don’t know if Id use the word Thankfully but It was definitely her and not me. Not exactly how I wanted to start the day at 6am but I got lots done. lol …preparing me for waking up super early all the time right?

So I know she will come in her own time. In the mean time I am enjoying…story time at the local library and the splash pool. Along with the hilarious things my kids have come up. Being a stay at home mom for this short period is fulfilling and exhausting all at the same time. Probably because I am huge and yet this is the less amount of weight I have gained during any pregnancy. Kinda proud of myself.

In the mean time I’ve also been crocheting and enjoying Blogs..and pinterest. Its a dangerous world I live in folks. Here are few of my recent favorites.

She does cool round ups of free crochet patterns and projects. Kinda amazing. Heres are few of my favorites I’ve seen recently..

Anyways. I think one of my last post was about my dear friend Holly that I grew up with who had a brain stem stroke on December 29, 2012. She is a living miracle, still recovering. She was blessed to spend time at TIRR in Houston, Texas and has recently been moved to home with her parents who are providing home care. You can read more about Holly’s journey of restoration at http://www.hollygilstrap.com. You will be inspired!

We were blessed to be able to be a part of a fundraiser for her family”Hollypalooza” and I made some cute little Minnie and Mickey Mouse Easter Basket. It was my first craft booth event. It was a lot of fun. I got to see lots of people I love and who love Holly..win win for sure. 🙂 Anyways..back to the giveaway. I have 2 baskets left!  So I am listing 1 in my Etsy and putting the other in this FABULOUS GIVEAWAY!

Long Time..no post

Poor Poor Blog…

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. We were blessed to be with my husbands family in IL for two weeks. It was truly a gift.

My kids enjoyed the snow. Hanna asked when she saw it..where are the penguins? and then later told me..Someone needs to clean this snow up mom..its bothering me. 🙂 Oh to be  3, and one day 5 as she tells me.

Kyle wanted to roll around in the snow. : ) I wanted to get them a little sled but Daddy said no..so I got them shovels. It didn’t really matter..we were out there for what I think was..umm..4 minutes. Kye’s pants were soaked by crawling around in it. ha!

We were able to see my love and my Brother In Law on Christmas morning through the wonder that is SKYPE, which I know made it even more special for the kids. They were so cute make sure that they ran over and showed them all of their gifts, and there were a lot of gifts.

However..this is what Kyle enjoyed playing with the most. A box and an old toy that lives at Grandma Kitty’s and Gramps. oh my.

While we were in IL, I received a text that my childhood best friend had a stroke and was in ICU. I don’t think I have too many childhood memories that don’t involve her. We were very blessed to grow up in church together, we did our girls program at church, sang together, went to camp together, switched clothes at church…drove our mothers crazy together. 🙂 When I had back surgery, I remember I couldn’t go up and down stairs and they had stairs at the entry of their home and her dad carried me up and down the stairs so I could see her. Another favorite memory is putting on her dad’s dress socks and sliding across their kitchen floor and sitting on my parents counters after swimming with a bowl of salsa and chips just  chatting!

When we were in High School, they moved and we saw less and less of each other but she is one of those precious friends who no matter how long you’ve gone, its like you were together every day. She invited me to be in her wedding when we were in college. Our youngest kids are “birthday buddies” just like our moms. Callie was born on the 6th and Kyle on the 7th. She loves Jesus with all of her heart, and is a shining example of HIS love to others. She is an inspiration. She’s been in ICU for a week, and is able to respond with blinking to yes and no questions which is a miracle in itself. Several – thousands – have joined together to pray for her total restoration and for her family, her husband Kris, and three darling children: Abigail, Ethan and Callie. You can do- follow her story on Facebook: Pray for Holly Gilstrap.  www.hollygilstrap.com I know the Lord is restoring her and look forward to visiting with her again. I don’t ask for much on my blog, but would you pray for Holly?

I had a tremendous blessing this Christmas with selling hats on my Etsy shop and facebook…so much I had to turn hats away..I hate that feeling so I am working this year on stocking up : ) Look for exciting things to come for While You Were Napping.

My husband and I are starting a new tradition this year is selecting a word or a theme for the year. One that we can kinda look to for the year. I’m going to put up in our home and hopefully over the years we will grow a collection and be able to look back and reflect on faith family and friends. This year our word is TRUST. Being a military family, especially one with a loved one deployed we are learning to trust that God knows our every move. We are leaning on HIM and not our own understanding. (Prov 3:5-6) We never know where the ARMY will take us but we TRUST that God does. 🙂 Personally I am trusting God for my friends Healing, I am trusting Him to lead us in decisions about finances, school, well pretty much everything.

I hope the New Year has started well for you Blog World! Hopefully once we get back in to the swing of things..I wont be so neglectful..lol

Trusting HIM,

Monster Hat Done..I think

This sweet boy wouldn’t model it for me..this was as close as he was gonna let me put it..little stinker!

The spikes/horns didn’t turn out exactly like I wanted them but I think they turned out great. Tyler thinks I should add some more teeth, which I might.

Either way I really enjoyed making it and I hope when it finally decides to stay cold in Oklahoma..he will wear it.

Any feedback?

Monster Hat Part One

ImageFor some reason it keeps turning this photo sideways…anyways. I posted a few days ago that my husband gave me a challenge to make a monster hat for our son Kyle after seeing some at the Childrens Place. After searching the internet for free patterns and inspiration..I decided to just give it a go on my own. Scary! I always use a pattern. Not using a pattern when sewing isn’t scary to me..it can be fixed. But with crocheting if you mess up you have to undo all that hard work you just did…its frustrating to me.

Anyways..Its not done. It kinda looks like a pacman…gonna have to fix that..unless you want a pacman pattern. then ta-da you’re welcome. lol I’m looking to ad some Teeth..and either a puff on top or some horns..

You are welcome to use this pattern for your personal use, please do not copy or sell it. You are welcome to sell any items you make from it just please link back to my blog. My son is 18 months so that is the size.  : ) I have not had anyone else but myself test this pattern, if you find a mistake please let me know and I’ll update it. You are welcome to share just link back to my page.

I’m a little nervous to share this! lol

photos and new starts

welp we officially put in our 30 day notice at the “lovely” Timbers Apartments.

there are no tears, well maybe when I think about the packing and cleaning. But I am thankful I have a wonderful husband and family who are coming to help. We are also moving in a week before our 30 days are up so we have enough time with Tyler working and watching these sweet children of mine.

I’m really excited that our new place has 3 bedrooms! I think we are still going to have the kids share a room because I don’t know that Kyle is going to be willing to part with his sister so we are thinking a “bedroom” and a playroom/office. Has anyone done this before? I was chatting with my Best Friend Heather and she said that she has friends who has this setup with their boys and it nice because they know that in the bedroom..all you do is rest and sleep. I like that idea.

I’m trying to research all kinds of organization and layouts, so we can start off right. I also just want us to make some plans and goals for our family while Tyler is deployed. Personal and as a family. One of my goals is to be more involved in our church’s womens program “Girlfriends” to hopefully meet some nice ladies to be friends with and to challenge me and my walk with God. I haven’t really had a chance to go and be a part working full time so hopefully I’ll get up the courage to go, even if its by myself.

Our new apartment has a fitness center but I also saw that the YMCA here has childcare available for parents who work out and I think that might be a good idea to. Gives the kids a chance to play with others and not just be at home with me and each other. I do have information on a mom’s group and we’ve gone once but I just don’t think its for me.

Essentially I’m hoping to build a little schedule for us that keeps us busy and mind off of Daddy being home but flexible enough that if we miss out on something its not the end of the world.

Not to much exciting going on here at the homefront, I did try a new crochet pattern from Micah Makes http://www.micahmakes.com:

I’m not crazy how it turned out with this yarn but the pattern did say to use two strands of yarn (which is how the cowboy hat is done) But I think I would rather try it with Caron Yarn. Its just much softer.

It is a hit with Miss Hanna though, she keeps wearing it even though she told me..I sweaty..ha ha..

I love this girl. Shes such a joy!

I’ll post a photo once I have it in a yarn I like. I do like the pattern though. I think I just had a poor yarn choice.

My wonderful Husband turned 29 this past weekend, we hosted a little Mustache party for him. It was fun to plan, kinda disappointed in the turn out but he said he had fun and he got his Oatmeal Sheet Cake. I only had to make it twice! lol : ) I’m not a baker. I’m not a cook either. I probably should only be allowed to wash dishes and eat food. HA! Thats why I married a chef. I’m learning. I know I was driving him nuts while  baking it. But I’m glad that it came out good for him. It was gone in a day so thats gotta be a good sign:

Of course the underlying theme…orange. My mans favorite color! ha ha!

Welp time to clean up the living room. Tyler got home, had dinner and then had a 100% recall. Of course after he had changed his clothes, poor guy.

I’ll leave you with our photos we got back from our photo session while we were visiting my parents in Houston. They are done by You’ve Been Framed Photography, Kelly Wakefield. She did an awesome job!

this boy wasn’t having his photo taken…please pardon the pacifier. He had a long week!

my favorite of him

oh my Hanna shes so beautiful!

this one makes me laugh so hard! she was done..no more..take me to mcdonalds! ha ha!!

Hope you guys have a great week!
