While You Were Napping

lets be honest, i wish they were napping

BLOG 5: 5 Things that make me happy right now

5 Things that make me happy right now.

1. My family. Not only our little 4 but our siblings, our parents and extended family. We are so very blessed to have this support structure for our family of 4. They are in fact vital to our success.

2. My church. There should be an LFA at every military post. (lawtonfirst.org) Last deployment wasn’t horrible but I can count on one hand the amount of friends that were my own. This deployment we have a place where we can grow in our relationship with the Lord, and have friends who have families who are doing the same thing. Its an amazing place and I’m so thankful we found our church.

3. Food. I think mostly learning to be a better cook. I still call my mom and request certain meals. I hope that I am able to do that and its just not a list of places you want me to order from. (Although I am really good at order food too)

4. Being creative. I am thankful I have my little outlet on the world (www.whileyouwerenapping.etsy.com). Thank goodness for things like Blogs and crafts ๐Ÿ™‚ They make me happy.

5. Getting mail/email. Mostly because its from your dad. It takes time to sit down and do those things so I feel very loved when I know he is busy and takes time to write a note. ๐Ÿ™‚ awee so sappy.ย

Have a great week! You are loved!

BLOG 4: 10 things you’d tell your 16 year old self

So Been out of town for a few days. We went to Sterling IL to visit family. I am so blessed that I don’t mind visiting my in-laws without my husband being there. Am I weird? or are they just nice? Either way we had fun. I turned the big 3-1 this year. We went to the Brookfield Zoo. It was amazing! I’ve decided we should go to a zoo every year for my birthday. Got to ride the train and everything. Which was super cool for me, I mean my kiddos. ๐Ÿ™‚ We swam a lot and played. It was fun. I needed a break from my job. Kinda burned out.

Half way through the trip my AC in my car went out. Fantastic…-the fan part, and the entire meaning of the word. Got a quote, and it starts at…(insert drumrollllllll) $1,700. Um, no. I didnt want to buy a car just repair one. So we are making some calls to hopefully get it repaired for less. I’m tempted to get a book and crawl under there and fix it myself. This is when deployment really sucks. Im tough though we will be ok. We actually had like a mini cool front come through though. I’m convinced it was just for me, because God loves me. Ok maybe it was science or for Dry Oklahoma too. Whatever, I still think we’re His favorite and He sent me some rain to cool us off.

Anyways..came home and right back to work. Also got some news about our rental house that we are switching some stuff around and that comes with a hefty bill, and I had a bill from Tri-Care that my awesome husband took care of from Kuwait…who does that? Oh yeah my awesome husband. Sorry ladies. Hes all mine, but he does have 2 brothers. ๐Ÿ™‚ wink, wink.

So 31, Im not gonna lie. I was nervous to turn 30 but it was pretty awesome. Im thinking these 30’s may not be so bad after all (KNOCK ON WOOD). I also had a very precious friend who had a stroke at the beginning of the year, who recently celebrated her 30th birthday (thanks be to God). She is still recovering and has a long way to go but this past year everytime something has come up that might be approached well I’m too old or I could never do that, or even I’m so tired. I remember that Holly would give everything to be tired from a day with her kids. Even a bad one. 30’s are going to be about celebrating life and being thankful that I am able to be with my family. We never know how many days we get. Please continue to pray for Holly’s healing! Her story is at http://www.hollygilstrap.com

So 16..sweet 16..what would I tell sweet 16 year old Amanda? But it was so long ago..lol.

1. Bad haircuts grow out.
2. Grandparents and people in general aren’t immortal. Spend lots of time with the people you love. Let them know you love them. Invest time with them.
3. What are you thinking taking a math course as an ELECTIVE…
4. Keep praying for you dad, because it may be 20 years later but God does hear & answers your prayers.
5. Never let the guard on your heart down. You have an awesome husband and family.
6. Probably should get the gas gauge in your car fixed. Take better care of your cars in general.
7. Make the most of free summers because eventually you become an adult and they go away and it sucks.
8. Sleep in whenever possible. You will miss it.
9. Don’t be afraid to try. (I’m still learning this)
10. Life goes on. No matter what disappointment or what plan you thought you had, God is always directing your path. Don’t be so concerned with the path He has for others that you miss out on what He has for you.

I’m sure I”ll think of 10 better things I would tell myself but for now these will have to do. I have some laundry to tackle. Hope you have an awesome week! Remember you are loved so very much!

Day 3: Describe Your Spouse

My spouse..you mean that handsome hunk of man you call Dad ๐Ÿ™‚

I remember being a little girl (ok maybe college to..don’t judge) with my friends writing out endless list of what we wanted our husbands

to be.

Your dad is more than I could have ever put on a list. He is an amazing husband and father and I am amazed everyday that he chooses to love me. Hanna I hope you find a man just like him. Kyle I hope you learn to be a man like him. I am sure everyone thought I was making an epic mistake and probably him too because we are so opposite. I even had a friend decline to be in my wedding. But I think that’s what makes us work. We challenge and teach each other things about each other everyday.

Dad shows me everyday what love is and how Christ loves us. He is selfless and gives to others when he cans. He’s goofy and fun loving. He’s my all time favorite person not only do I love him, I like him.

day 2: 3 Fears

Continuing the 30 things my children should know about me: 3 fears

1. I am afraid of the dentist. You have to understand, I’ve been going since I was 5 to not only the dentist but the orthodontist and the oral surgeon. It seems no matter how hard I try to take good care of my teeth they are just never clean enough or something is genetically wrong with my mouth. Some people are afraid of spiders and clowns. Mine is the dentist.

2. For a long time I feared, I would never get married and have a family. When you see everyone around you getting married and having kids and you are just doing day to day and nothing changes, it can be scary when that is your desire and you are doing everything right. Not sleeping around, honoring God with your life, it can be very frustrating. But the great thing about this fear is that I over came and understood that God was directing my life. If I had met your dad earlier or later I may have missed out on some great opportunities. I guess my fear has moved from a fear of never having it all to possibly losing it all! I pray every day that God would guard, protect and preserve our family. That He would keep you each safe.

3. I have a fear of failure. I think this may be an oldest child trait. I often fear I may not be enough so I don’t put myself out or afraid what will others think! Well you will never know until you actually do it. I read a quote the other day. If you live a life without failure then have you really lived at all..or something along those lines. When I have fear, I usually quietly sing..God has not given us a spirit of fear, but He has given to us a spirit of power a spirit of hope and a sound mind.

I hope you never have any fears. I know you will, its human and its ok to be afraid. Just like its ok to be happy angry sad. But we are blessed to have Christ who helps us conquer all of our fears and be who HE has created us to be. I love you my Hanna and Kyle! I hope you will be brave and courageous in all that you do and are faced with.

30 things my kids should know about me: Day 1

The first day is: 20 Random Facts about me

1. I love Thanksgiving. Like more than Christmas and I tried to convince your dad that we should have our wedding on Thanksgiving Day…but apparently no one would come to our wedding. 5. I have an issue called..hangry. When I am hungry, I get angry and I’m pretty much the most horrible person to be around. Its ugly, and I know it.

6. I wish I could remember all the words to songs and who sings them but because of my children..I have no memory so I just make up my own words. ๐Ÿ™‚ and often I am made fun of. I’m ok with it.

7. Im a control freak. I am trying to be better about it. Really I am. Its. Just. So. Hard.

8. I am terrified of the dentist like make me wanna vomit at the thought of going there.

9. ย I know people don’t think I am an outdoor person but..I love being outdoors and I love camping. I can’t wait to take my children camping and start making some amazing memories.

10. I have never wanted to make someone elses dreams come true the way that I hope yours do.

11. I love to have socks on. Mostly when I sleep.ย

Mom Bloggin

So I am a big fan of Pinterest. Shocker, a mom, crafty, blogger…and a fan of pinterest. I’ll give you a minute to catch your breath.ย

I have also been trying to journal. Journaling is as equally hard as blogging in my opinion. I was inspired to actually write down my thoughts/lessons/verse/experiences for my children at a funeral. One of my dear friends mom’s passed away a little over a year ago and my friend read from her journal at her funeral and I was so moved by the way her journal comforted Ashley. I guess I am a hands on learner as well so it helps me stay focused during service or if I am recording an experience, a “God wink”, etc. I might see another aspect that I missed. I hope my journals are something that my kids will learn from and treasure.

Anyways..back to pinterest. I found this blog http://www.babymakingmachine.com/2012/11/30-things-my-kids-should-know-about-me.htmlย and I thought it was a neat idea and might get my creative juices going..so Here is my attempt to be a better blogger. I know you miss my ramblings ๐Ÿ™‚ I am ย trying to not just pin it but LIVE it. Whats the point in finding all those cool ideas..right??? So. ย I hope you enjoy my new few post.

If anything maybe my loves will come and read it one day ๐Ÿ™‚

a visit to Dr. Suess

I started this post a few weeks ago (as you can tell we are like 1/2 through operation: broken arm…lol) just reflecting

today was not my favorite day. all week long had been weird. but in all of its Weirdness, I loved absolutely loved that today, days later after the weirdness I can see God’s hand at work in my life and I am eternally grateful for that.ย

You see it started by reading my schedule wrong. I was so excited to have Wednesday off. Planned on doing some grocery shopping, had my coupons ready, I even volunteered to watch a friends little boy so she could have a moment to herself for a change. Then on Tuesday, I thought ย I should check the schedule. :/ I was off on Thursday.

So I sucked it up went to work on Wednesday because my bad attitude said well if I have to be there then I’m getting coffee. Only to get stuck in the slowest line on earth. ๐Ÿ™‚ Wednesday night as we were getting ready for bed the kids were playing in the living room jumping off of an ottoman toybox thing that we have. The same one that a while back Kyle busted his nose while jumping from the couch. First let me say this disclaimer. We are not fans of our children jumping on furniture. They have been told 1/2 million times to stop, put in time out even. They don’t care.ย

So Hanna jumped and crashed on her arm. She whined a little so I decided ok lets just do bedtime. I did a mom check on her arm you know, bend it wiggle your fingers, and sent her to bed.

well she woke up in the middle of the night crying about her arm so I made an appointment. the doctor had us take xrays, he thought maybe it was dislocated or sprained…after we got xrays it was clear. She broke it. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ So we were sent to a peds ortho doctor in Hurst, Tx…which is 3 hours away. Before we made it to the ortho doctor. She tripped and fell pusher her elbow out of place by 30%. So we were scheduled surgery, where they put 2 pins in. Surgery went great, besides trying to keep her still to keep her elbow elevated and iced for 48 hours. And Baths have definitely been interesting. Poor Girl, she loves water!

All week long though I kept seeing God’s goodness. If I had Wednesday off, I might not have been able to get Hanna in to see the doctor. I had gas points from grocery shopping that took .45 off of each gallon up to 20 gallons of gas. When I was talking to Hanna about going to see the doctor she started to ask a question by saying.. Mom when I go see Dr. Suess? lol. The innocence of a child. She hasn’t been in too much pain. I know she wants her daddy but she has been very kind in allowing me to love on her.

So we will have a DRY summer, make lots of trips to Ft. Worth over the next few months. Not at all how I planned. But sometimes that is how life goes. I heard a quote on the radio. Our emotions define us or they refine us. This past year and definitely challenged me to think about how I react to situations. My attitude is not always the most…fragrant, in fact I’ve had to apologize on many times and remind myself I’m an adult. I am so thankful to have great friends, family, an awesome church, and a SUPER husband who from the other side of the world can make anything better. But most of all a loving God who loves me in spite of me. I’ve really been challenged to take on an attitude like Hanna. Where ever we go..people ask her about her arm and she tells them, and its always followed by a BIG smile and Wanna sign my cast??? ๐Ÿ™‚ She is such a good girl, thank you Lord for blessing me to be her momma ๐Ÿ™‚ Kyle has been really sweet about it to, helping sister whenever she needs him. He has also learned the word ottoman from hearing the story repeated so many times. lol.

We go on Tuesday to get her pins pulled out at the Dr’s office. Doesn’t that sound like a blast? But I told Hanna we will be getting ice cream afterwards with (at her request) Mrs Dawn! We also got the ok from Daddy to get…a WATERPROOF cast because summers in OK are hot, no joke. Now we can visit the spray park! Was that an angelic chorus playing…yes friends yes it was.

I know that things are always going to happen with kids. It’s a part of life. Although I do expect a thank you from mine for never breaking a bone because this is no joke. You’re welcome mom and dad! ha! lol…So I don’t know the exact purpose of this post. Maybe you are having a tough day. Look for the silver lining, the karma, the blessing in it..its there. I believe its God at work in our lives and I for one and truly thankful for that.

Happy Wednesday
